GMB, the union for manufacturing workers, has reacted to the publication of the Northern Ireland Select Committee’s report on the Bombardier trade dispute. [1]

Michael Mulholland, GMB Regional Organiser, said: “The rejection of Boeing’s compliant was a victory for Bombardier’s workers.

“This wouldn’t have happened without the GMB delegation that lobbied the European Commission and secured a robust response at the highest European level on behalf of our members at Bombardier.

“We have consistently warned that the UK Government needs to do more to protect UK manufacturing jobs, and the local communities that rely on them.

“The Select Committee is right that Boeing’s case set a dangerous precedent for other exporting industries.

“Ministers must now work with the trade unions to make sure that the risk of a critical UK industry failing must never happen again.”
