Comau, a leading global company in the development and implementation process and technology solutions for sustainable automation and production, celebrated the opening of its new engineering facilities in Gateshead, during a two-day open house on June 14 and 15. The event, which included technology seminars by top systems integrators, technology companies and industry experts, was the perfect location to display Comau’s on-going commitment to innovation and its advanced approach to collaborative, digital manufacturing.

With a strong experience in the industry and headquarters in Rugby, England, Comau UK has served customers throughout the UK since 1991. Now, with the new facilities, the industrial automation expert is in a unique position to meet the needs of the North East region thanks to its ability to offer a full range of competencies from concept design to full-line integration. Comau’s building block concept includes standalone automation products such as Robots, Spot Guns, the RHEvo Hemming Solution and CNC machines, to name a few.

Comau specialises in working with customers to build up small systems, which can then be transformed into full automation solutions. Leveraging simultaneous engineering studies and the latest Virtual Commissioning technologies, the company can help ensure plant disruption is kept to a minimum during such projects. With the new Gateshead engineering facilities, Comau is able to pre-build cells in a controlled environment and get them ready for Factory Acceptance Testing, which further contributes to minimising the time needed on site.

As part of the Open House, Comau and its technology partners presented a range of seminars and technology discussions – in two different conference facilities – focused on value-driven solutions and optimised Industry 4.0 compatibility. Specific shop-floor technology demonstrations included the innovative RHEvo push-pull hemming system, and a Weld Machine consisting of the Comau NJ4 290-2.7 with a Comau Compact weld gun, aluminium weld gun and gripper featuring Comau’s innovative ‘Breakaway’ technology. An ARC Welding cell and the Racer7, Racer3 and RebelS robotic handling solutions will also be shown.

“I am proud to celebrate the expansion of Comau UK, which is an important step forward for the company in the direction to be always closer to our customers” said Brendan Blennerhassett, managing director. “We are investing in our technology offering, our services and our facilities to help companies of all sizes respond to evolving market needs. This includes engineering the enabling technologies to support highly individualised, highly efficient production while safeguarding productivity and profitability for our customers, across the entire manufacturing line.”
